The media office of the Minister of Telecommunications, Eng. Johnny Qarm, issued a statement stating: "In response to some misconceptions circulating regarding internet pricing and the possibility of converting landline services to prepaid, the Ministry of Telecommunications wishes to confirm the following:
- The 2G network will not cease operations in the foreseeable future and certainly not on July 1. When a decision is made to stop the 2G network, its implementation will be carried out at specific locations and in phases, not overnight.
- It is incorrect to say that the Minister of Telecommunications will not allow landline service owners to convert their lines to prepaid. On the contrary, this option will remain available, and the terms will be adjusted to be more accommodating to citizens.
- Starting July 1, the pricing for mobile telecommunications services and subscriptions will be calculated based on a division by three, to be paid in Lebanese currency according to the Sayrafa platform exchange rate. Accordingly, the monthly subscription for a landline will become 5 USD or the equivalent of 125,000 L.L., while the landline owner will continue to benefit from 60 minutes of calling.
- Regarding the price of the gigabyte, the cellular companies Touch and Alfa published their prices on their websites and through their social channels following the press conference held with the Minister of Telecommunications to announce the price adjustments on May 26."
