The "Taher Mhiri" stadium hosted the summit match of the eighth round of the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 for the 2020-2021 season, between the leaders Esperance and the second-placed Sfaxien.
In this match, Club Sfaxien achieved a crucial victory over their guest Esperance with a score of 2-0, handing the defending champions their first defeat of the season in the competition. The goals for Sfaxien were scored by Walid Karoui in the 36th minute and Kagezlay Edou in the 79th minute.
Algerian player Abderrahmane Badran from Esperance received a red card in the 84th minute of the match. With this win, Sfaxien's points tally rises to 13 in second place in the Tunisian league standings from 6 matches, while Esperance remains at the top with 16 points from 7 matches.
It is worth mentioning that the Tunisian football league competitions will pause for 10 days starting tomorrow, Thursday, following the conclusion of the eighth round. This decision comes after the Tunisian Ministry of Health's announcement on Tuesday to suspend all sports activities until January 24 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
