Judicial circles were surprised on the morning of March 22 by new allegations from Judge Fadi Akiki against the head of the Lebanese Forces party, Samir Geagea, for several criminal offenses. According to the Lebanese Forces party, on March 16, 2022, the defense lawyers in the case concerning the incident in Ain el-Rummaneh filed a complaint against Judge Fadi Akiki with the Judicial Inspection for various violations. They also submitted a request for the recusal of Judge Akiki to the Civil Court of Appeal in Beirut on the same date, due to the conflict that had arisen between the two parties. Judge Akiki was informed of this and since then began to evade notification.
Judge Fadi Akiki avoided being notified and dismissed his aides and secretary. On the morning of March 24, Judge Akiki remained in his home, failing to attend court and evading notification of the recusal request, which was a deliberate act to maintain control over the file. From his home, he illegally submitted an additional complaint dated March 22 against Dr. Samir Geagea for several criminal offenses, and he has since refused to appear in court.
The Lebanese Forces view these actions as a systematic destruction of justice and the judiciary in Lebanon, perpetrated by certain judges in response to specific political parties, especially Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement, to retaliate against their political opponents. They have called on the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Attorney General to intervene immediately and put an end to these abnormal practices that threaten the remaining judiciary and institutions in Lebanon.
