The organizers of the youth demonstrations that took place in several Libyan cities yesterday (Friday) announced their continued peaceful protests until their goals are achieved, asserting that "their patience has run out" and hinting at the possibility of resorting to civil disobedience.
The organizers expressed gratitude to "all the youth across Libya" who answered the call of their country and took to the streets to "support the ordinary citizen" who has lost "the most basic necessities" such as electricity and other means of living, amid "deteriorating economic and security conditions due to chaos and political division," according to a statement from the "Beltaris Youth Movement" on Facebook.
The statement confirmed that "Beltaris" will continue its journey of peaceful protest until its objectives are met, emphasizing that they "will not accept compromises or exploitation to change the course of this youth uprising." They also reiterated their "absolute rejection" of any attempts to politicize their peaceful expression and demands for rights for political purposes.
The statement continued: "The youth no longer have the patience to endure the deteriorating situation, and if demands are not met soon, all means of peaceful expression are available to us, including complete civil disobedience."
The "Beltaris Movement" called on all security and military agencies in Libya to respect their legal right to peaceful expression and protest, while also calling in a separate statement for "national youth working in security agencies" to "favor your brothers."
Yesterday, several Libyan cities, including the capital Tripoli, witnessed angry demonstrations protesting the ongoing crises in the country, mainly the poor services and their impact on the living conditions of citizens due to the ongoing power struggle among the parties involved in the crisis.
