Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took on the role of his own translator due to his anger at the latter's failure to translate his comments fully into English during a major press conference. It seemed as if he was saying, "With my own hands, not my translator's." Zelensky, who prefers to speak in Ukrainian publicly, acted after the translator condensed his remarks during a conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
He turned toward the translator and stated clearly: "And I talked about the window of opportunities. I said it cannot be resolved (the crisis) because every day we see guns and shooting from the Russian side." He continued: "And I said Slava Ukraini (Glory to Ukraine)," to which the translator quickly responded: "Glory to Ukraine." Zelensky spoke to the translator with clear anger, saying: "Thank you very much. It is important."
