Lebanese Interior and Municipalities Minister Judge Bassam Mawlawi confirmed on Saturday the readiness of security forces on all security and logistical levels for the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 15. The National News Agency reported Mawlawi's remarks during a meeting of the Central Security Council at the ministry: "We are meeting today, 15 days before the parliamentary elections, to set up arrangements and the security plan to ensure their success," noting an insistence and readiness to make the electoral process successful.
He pointed out that bilateral meetings have been held with all security agencies to coordinate the plan among all security bodies, clarifying that preparedness and readiness will be maintained for election day and beforehand.
Minister Mawlawi added, "We assure citizens of the readiness of the security plan and its details; it is not necessary to announce them. Today's meeting is to establish a joint plan among security agencies, and all have confirmed their determination to ensure the success of the elections."
He also emphasized that the meeting confirmed the necessity of preventing large gatherings that could lead to security disturbances, and that sports activities and matches will be halted starting tomorrow, stressing that all military agencies and forces will be prepared for election day with distributed and coordinated missions.
