Dr. Natalia Kruglova, a Russian nutritionist, announced that elements of the "Mediterranean diet" help enhance the body's immunity. The expert noted in a conversation with the Russian news agency "Prime" that strengthening the immune system reduces the risk of disease, thus it is important to add components of the Mediterranean diet to one's dietary regimen. She further explains that such a diet mainly consists of plant-based foods, fish, seafood, and poultry, which are considered the primary sources of protein. She states, "Plant foods are rich in ascorbic acid, antioxidants, and zinc, which is essential for the immune system, while fish and seafood are indispensable sources of omega-3 fatty acids." She adds that this is very important for reducing inflammation, especially during the spread of infectious diseases.
