American activists reported that several participants in the protests against the repeal of abortion rights were detained last night while attempting to block traffic on a major street in Manhattan, New York. Just before midnight local time, dozens of protesters lined up in defense of abortion rights across 6th Avenue, near the intersection with 42nd Street, obstructing traffic. Security personnel initially urged the demonstrators to leave the roadway and later detained several of them, allowing traffic to resume. American media reported that the protests held in New York last night were originally peaceful in nature. The main group of several thousand protesters dispersed in the evening after rain began to fall. Several hundred activists remained in city parks in Manhattan and the Grand Central Terminal area until nightfall. Activists announced their intention to continue protests in the coming days. Representatives from various leftist movements and organizations, which also advocate for a number of other political and social demands, including the protection of the rights of Black citizens and sexual minorities and the cessation of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, are participating in these protests.
