Italy's defensive stalwart, Leonardo Bonucci, discussed his team's readiness ahead of facing England in the final match of the "Euro 2020" tournament, sharing his thoughts on the performance of England's star player, Harry Kane. Bonucci expressed that playing against England at Wembley does not intimidate the Italian team, stating: "We will be playing on their home turf, but that does not scare us."
He added in a press conference: "What will occur when we face England is the best display of European and world football, by England, Italy, and the refereeing crew." He described the matchup as between the "elderly" defense of Italy and the "youth" of England, highlighting the speed of the "Three Lions'" attackers and wingers.
Regarding his view on Harry Kane, Bonucci noted: "We will discover his performance in the upcoming match. In the last three matches, we have been fortunate to face some of the best strikers in the world like Belgian Romelu Lukaku and Spaniard Álvaro Morata. It is an additional motivation for us," as reported by the Spanish newspaper "AS."
He further stated: "We have no excuses; we do not feel tired. We will be ready to engage in battle." Bonucci attributed Italy's outstanding performance in the Euros to the extra year the team received for rebuilding after the postponement of the European Championship last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is worth mentioning that Italy is competing in its fourth final of the European Championship, having won the title in 1968, and lost the final twice to France 1-2 with the golden goal in 2000, and to Spain 0-4 in the final in 2012.
