Mexican Mayor Marries Alligator Dressed in White Dress

Hugo Sosa, the mayor of San Pedro in Mexico, married an alligator wearing a white wedding dress during a lively ceremony. Mayor Sosa's marriage to the alligator was part of an ancient indigenous ritual aimed at bringing abundance and luck to the village in southwestern Mexico, according to the Daily Mail. The seven-year-old reptile, referred to as "Little Princess," is believed to be a goddess representing planet Earth, and her marriage to the local leader symbolizes the joining of humans with her.

Elia Edith Aguilar, known as the godmother who organized the wedding, said, "It makes me very happy and proud of my roots. It's a very beautiful tradition." She also mentioned that it was "a privilege" to be commissioned to conduct the ceremony and expressed that she spent a lot of time worrying about what the bride (the alligator) would wear. The young alligator's mouth was tied to avoid any unwanted biting. After kissing the alligator, Mayor Sosa stated, "We ask nature for enough rain, enough food, and for there to be fish in the river."
