Court documents have shown that Prince Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth of Britain, has received a formal notice of a lawsuit filed by a woman in the United States who accuses him of sexually assaulting her while his friend Jeffrey Epstein was exploiting her sexually. The woman's lawyers, Virginia Giuffre, stated in a court filing in Manhattan that they sent the civil lawsuit to Prince Andrew's attorney in Los Angeles, Andrew Brettler, via email and FedEx, with both copies received by Monday morning. Under federal regulations, the Duke of York has 21 days to respond, otherwise a default judgment may be issued against him. Giuffre's lawyers had previously stated that they also notified Andrew of the lawsuit, according to Reuters. Andrew and his lawyers have firmly denied Giuffre's allegations; he has not faced any formal charges at 61 years old. Giuffre is seeking undisclosed damages through the lawsuit she filed on August 9. She accused Prince Andrew of forcing her to have sex when she was underage in London at the home of Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's former associate. She claimed that Andrew also had sexual encounters with her around the same time at Epstein's home in Manhattan and on Epstein's private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
