The Ukrainian armed forces have received a new batch of weaponry amid the rising crisis with Russia, which Western reports state is seeking to invade its western neighbor. The website of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that his country’s army recently received new weapons, some of which were locally manufactured, including warplanes, naval vessels, and military vehicles.
This marks the second arms delivery Ukraine has received in recent weeks, following Washington's announcement of sending weapons to Kyiv, including Javelin anti-tank missiles. News reports indicated that the new weapons shipment includes 34 Kozak armored vehicles and T-64BV battle tanks, in addition to personnel carriers and other military vehicles.
The service also included two multi-role fighter jets, two training aircraft, a transport plane, and a helicopter. According to U.S. intelligence, Russia may launch a military attack on Ukraine by the end of January, involving nearly 100 tactical battalions comprising 175,000 troops. However, the Kremlin denies any plans for an invasion, citing Western provocations and corresponding Ukrainian troop movements, asserting that Russian military movements do not pose a threat to anyone.
Despite the balance of power and numbers favoring Russia, Ukraine has worked extensively over the past seven years to modernize its army following the Crimean War.
