The Democratic University Sector, affiliated with the Moroccan Unified Socialist Party, condemned the campaign targeting the reputation of Moroccan professors following what has come to be known as the "sex for grades" file. The sector stated in a press release that it "denounces the generalization aimed at creating a distorted stereotype based on isolated and aberrant deviant practices."
According to the same statement, the sector condemns all crimes of extortion, bribery, abuse of power, harassment, and violence against women across all government and private sectors, expressing solidarity with the victims of these crimes.
University professors, as per the same source, demanded the establishment of actual equality between men and women and the strengthening of punitive measures against all practices that undermine human dignity, including harassment and physical and moral violence, while respecting the presumption of innocence.
The sector denied being against listening to the victims of harassment and extortion, noting its rejection of the appointment of university presidents to "listening cells" which it deemed illegal, as well as the launch of a hotline and email for reporting these incidents.
Additionally, the source stated that "university presidents are called upon to fully assume their responsibilities and fulfill their administrative duties to combat these aberrant and isolated phenomena, and to open their offices to receive complaints if they exist." The sector also held the university presidents in charge of institutions where these cases emerged "responsible for their failure to protect the victims according to legal regulations."
