Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that "the case of searching for secret nuclear files is just a ruse," commenting on a report from the Washington Post that indicated the FBI searched for nuclear documents in the former president's home. The American newspaper reported on Thursday that FBI agents were looking for documents related to nuclear weapons when they searched Trump’s home in Florida this week.
The report added that it was unclear if they found these documents at Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach. The Justice Department requested a judge on Thursday to disclose the warrant under which the FBI searched Trump’s home, after the former president described the situation as political retribution.
This request means that the public will soon learn more about what investigators were searching for during an unprecedented search of a former president's home. Merrick Garland, the Attorney General, stated at a press conference that he personally approved the decision to search Trump's home.
An informed source mentioned that the FBI seized about ten boxes from Trump's home during the search. The former president was not in Florida when law enforcement raided his home. Late Thursday, Trump called for the immediate release of the documents related to the search. He wrote in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social: "Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the un-American, unnecessary, and unauthorized raid of my home in Palm Beach, but I will also take the additional step of urging the immediate release of these documents."
