Member of the Future Bloc, MP Assem Iraji, expressed his hope that the emergency plan would be extended for a week or ten days, conditional on providing financial assistance to citizens to meet their needs, as people are in need of money and food. He is concerned about the rapidly spreading English variant.
In an interview with the Al-Anbaa newspaper, Iraji noted that the total number of infections has decreased at an acceptable rate, but the percentage of positive cases and the mortality rate remain high. He indicated that in the recent past, preventive measures were not implemented as required until the disaster occurred, and the government distracted people by supporting some food items, none of which reached them, with most being smuggled out of the country. He added that starting Tuesday, we will see whether people adhere to preventive measures or chaos as seen previously. Regarding the World Bank loan, Iraji believes that its distribution will take time as it requires approval from the Parliament, while people are in dire need of assistance.
Just yesterday, the Lebanese government decided to open some urgent productive sectors while continuing the general lockdown and curfew, which is conditional on permission granted through a platform. The sectors will open in four phases, each lasting two weeks.
