Fuel distributors have warned of the consequences of the public sector employees' strike that has paralyzed the country for the fourth week. Fadi Abu Chakra, the representative of fuel distributors, explained in a statement following a meeting with distributors that "the fuel price schedule will not be issued today due to the strike of the employees of the General Directorate of Oil." He said, "If the strike continues, the import of fuel tankers will stop, as will the permits."
The caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati was urged to "call for an extraordinary session of the Cabinet and work on meeting the legitimate demands of public sector employees, as they can no longer reach their workplaces due to the high prices of gasoline and the loss of the value of their salaries due to the collapse of the national currency." Abu Chakra also called on the state to "act as quickly as possible before matters worsen." He said, "Oh God, I have delivered; the situation is very serious if the strike continues."
