Authorities in northern Germany have urged thousands of people to receive another COVID-19 vaccine shot after a police investigation revealed that a Red Cross nurse may have injected them with saline solution instead of the vaccine, according to "Russia Today Arabic." Sven Ambrosi, a local council member in the area, stated in a Facebook post that the relevant authorities requested over 8,600 individuals to come forward on Tuesday, fearing they may have received saline solution instead of the vaccine.
The nurse is suspected of injecting people with saline solution instead of the original doses at a vaccination center in Friesland near the North Sea coast in early spring. While saline solution is harmless, most of those vaccinated in Germany in March and April by this nurse are seniors and at risk of COVID-19. Police investigator Peter Beer, speaking at an earlier press conference covered by German media, mentioned that there was a "strong suspicion of risks" based on witness testimonies.
Police investigators noted that the motives of the unidentified nurse behind her actions remain unclear; however, she had expressed skeptical views about the efficacy and hazards of the vaccines in her social media posts. It was not immediately clear whether the suspect had been detained or charged in the case, as it was handed over to a special unit investigating politically motivated crimes. The nurse justified her use of saline instead of the Pfizer vaccine to investigators, claiming she wanted to cover up the accidental dropping of a vaccine vial and losing its contents, admitting to replacing only six doses.
