The Spanish club Atlético Madrid announced that their Portuguese international forward João Félix has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in quarantine.
Atlético Madrid issued a statement saying: "Forward João Félix is in isolation at home in accordance with the strict measures from health authorities and the protocol of the Spanish Football League." Our player @joaofelix70 has tested positive for COVID-19. He’s isolating at home, in compliance with the health authorities’ guidelines.— Atlético de Madrid (@atletienglish) February 3, 2021.
Félix, who joined Atlético from Benfica for 125 million euros, joins his teammates Belgian Yannick Carrasco Ferreira and Mario Hermoso, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week and did not participate in their team’s 4-2 victory over Cádiz last Sunday in La Liga. A few days ago, Atlético confirmed the COVID-19 infections of Carrasco and Hermoso. Additionally, Luis Suárez and head coach Diego Simeone of the Rojiblancos have also previously contracted COVID-19.
It is worth noting that forward João Félix has scored 6 goals this season for his team, which currently leads the Spanish league with 50 points, 10 points ahead of second-placed Barcelona and has a game in hand.
