A pickle factory owner and three of his sons died on Friday inside one of the storage tanks at the factory located in the industrial area of Bayad Al-Arab in East Nile, Beni Suef. Reports regarding the cause of death varied between suffocation and electric shock, according to Egyptian newspapers.
Initial investigations indicated that they were exposed to an electric shock from a pump motor while cleaning a storage tank containing water inside the factory. However, another account stated that while cleaning one of the tanks, the victims suffered from suffocation due to a lack of sufficient oxygen at the bottom of the tank.
The Assistant Minister of Interior and the Director of Beni Suef Security received a notification from the emergency operations room reporting the incident involving the father and his three sons inside the pickle manufacturing facility. He ordered that legal procedures be promptly taken and that the public prosecutor be notified.
Beni Suef Ambulance Service dispatched four ambulances to the scene to transport the four bodies to the morgue at Beni Suef Specialized Hospital, under the supervision of the public prosecutor and police.
According to preliminary investigations, father Ahmed Sayed Tayea, 50, and his sons Bilal, 19, Abdullah, 18, and Adham, 14, were cleaning the pickle tank when they were electrocuted and died instantly.
The Governor of Beni Suef, Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, instructed the city head to follow up on the procedures for handing over the bodies to their relatives and to coordinate with the relevant authorities from the police and public prosecutor about the investigation's findings.
