The White House Does Not Rule Out the Fall of Kyiv

White House spokesperson Jen Psaki stated that the fall of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, to Russian forces is a "possible scenario." In response to a question about the likelihood of Kyiv coming under Russian control and potential U.S. actions regarding this, Psaki said, "The fall of Kyiv is a possible scenario. We are still seeing how Russia is moving forward; even while we see resistance on the ground, Russian forces continue to advance towards Kyiv. So there is a real possibility of such an outcome. I'm just not going to speculate right now on what it would look like and what our response would be." She added, "They are actively launching an offensive against Ukraine, against its capital, and they want to overthrow the government there."
