President Michel Aoun sent telegrams to both Emperor Naruhito of Japan and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, expressing condolences over the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. In his messages, President Aoun condemned "the assassination that resulted in the death of the late former Prime Minister," describing it as "a horrific crime that shocks the human conscience." He noted that it took the life of a global leader who made international law a guiding principle for relations between nations, for the sake of brotherhood and progress among peoples. He offered condolences on behalf of himself and the Lebanese people for his passing.
The President praised what Abe had done "to strengthen bilateral relations between Japan and Lebanon," commending the late leader's qualities and affirming that "Lebanon does not forget the importance he placed on enhancing bilateral relations between our countries, where he was a loyal friend to our nation and worked continuously to support Lebanon in international forums." He emphasized that Abe was supportive of Lebanon's issues in various international arenas and remained a friend to the Lebanese people since his visit to Lebanon as part of a parliamentary delegation nearly twenty years ago, as well as his initiatives as a member of the Japan-Lebanon Parliamentary Friendship Committee.
