Air France will offer its customers the option to include health data that allows them to travel in their tickets, to facilitate airport transit. The company announced on Thursday, four days after the extension of the health pass to cover long-distance transportation in France, that passengers will receive an email a few days before their flight inviting them to submit "health documents via an online platform."
The company added, "These documents are verified, and based on their verification, a confirmation message will be sent to the customer. Therefore, boarding passes will indicate 'ready to travel,' which will help speed up the process upon departure with Air France teams at the airport on the day of the flight."
It clarified that "this service is free and optional, and it also makes the airport transit process easier for customers by avoiding successive verifications."
The platform used for submitting each passenger's health documents will comply with European data protection regulations, as confirmed by an Air France spokesperson.
He noted that "the documents uploaded by passengers will be stored temporarily only for the time needed for verification and will then be deleted."
In light of the threat from the Delta variant of the coronavirus, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday the extension of the health pass to cover long-distance transportation in France (trains, buses, and planes), which are now only accessible to vaccinated individuals or those providing documentation proving they are not infected with the disease.
Initially, it was necessary to present documentation proving that a person is vaccinated or not infected to travel by plane abroad.
