Sectarian Clashes and Revenge: Wedding Ends with Guest Shot Dead by Five Bullets in Lebanon

A state of shock and anger spread among the Lebanese public following a murder during a wedding held at a swimming pool in the town of Jiyeh, located in the Chouf District of Mount Lebanon Governorate. A video recorded from inside the wedding showed a young man storming into the Panjia swimming pool area in Jiyeh on Saturday night, aiming his gun at someone and fatally shooting them with five bullets.

Local media in Lebanon reported that the army enforced a security cordon around the crime scene, while initial investigations indicated that the act was "an act of revenge." Security sources revealed that the gunman belongs to the Al-Ghossan family, who attended the wedding to avenge the death of his brother, killed last year by a member of the Shalabi family.

The deceased was identified as Ali Shibli, who was responsible for "Hezbollah" and was known to be one of the fighters in what is known as the "Resistance Brigades," groups funded by "Hezbollah" that include second-tier armed fighters focused on mixed sectarian areas in Lebanon.

It was found that the shooter, Ahmad Zahir Ghossan, is the brother of a young man named Hassan Ghossan, who died in a clash that occurred last year in the Khalda area.

Activists circulated videos showing the shooter infiltrating the wedding and directly firing at Shibli before fleeing the scene. According to reports, Shibli owned a commercial shop in the area and had a confrontation with a group from Khalda about a year ago.

Informed sources indicated that the shooter was arrested and has been handed over to military intelligence.
