Effects of Lemon Water on High Blood Pressure

Researchers found that drinking lemon water helps to avoid high blood pressure, thereby preventing serious heart complications. A five-month trial involving 101 women, published in the journal "Nutrition and Metabolism," showed that "daily consumption of lemon water, along with walking, is closely associated with lower blood pressure." The researchers attribute this effect to the action of citric acid and flavonoids found in lemons. Conversely, the polyphenol compounds present in lemons can improve endothelial function and enhance vascular elasticity. Scientists also consider that orange juice has a similar blood pressure-lowering effect to that of lemon juice. According to "sputnikn," citrus fruits contain important health compounds, such as fiber and flavonoids, and the concentration of vitamins and minerals in these fruits may help promote heart health by reducing risk factors such as high blood pressure.
