The head coach of the Senegal national team, Aliou Cissé, has called on fans to attend and support the Teranga Lions in the return leg against Egypt in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The two teams will meet at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium next Tuesday, which has a capacity of 50,000 spectators, at 7 PM Cairo time, with tickets for the match sold out.
Cissé stated in remarks to Senegalese website "SENEGAL" that he has worked in this field for years and, as a former international player, noted that there is a mentality that our fans have not yet adopted. He explained that the team needs more passionate support, similar to what is seen in Algeria and Tunisia, where journalists and politicians rally behind the national team during matches.
He added, "I hope that on Tuesday, those wearing official uniforms will make way for those wearing their jerseys. We want to see green, yellow, and red colors in the stands." He concluded, "The contribution of the fans will be extremely important. I invite all Senegalese residents; we need our supporters."
Despite the defeat against Egypt, the Senegal national team received a grand welcome with drums and music at the airport upon their return to the capital, Dakar, on Saturday. The Senegalese Football Federation shared a video of the players being welcomed with drums and festivities on their official Twitter account.
Senegal lost to Egypt 1-0 last Friday at Cairo International Stadium in the first leg of the decisive stage of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, where they need to win or draw to reach the Qatar World Cup.
