Emirati Engineer Confronts COVID-19 by Constructing Field Hospitals

Under the title "Emirati Engineer Confronts COVID-19 by Constructing Field Hospitals," the website Emirates Today highlighted the important role played by engineer Marwan Abdullah Shaya in the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. He was noted for his distinguished presence on the front lines as one of the heroes compelled by their national and humanitarian duty to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of others.

Shaya adapted to the challenges posed by the pandemic, including spending weeks away from home, sacrificing his comfort and his family's happiness to oversee the design and construction of field hospitals to enhance the country's efforts against COVID-19. SEHA described Shaya as one of the prominent heroes in combating the pandemic, highlighting his design of field hospitals in record time in Mohammed bin Zayed City, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the field hospital in Dubai Parks and Resorts, and field hospitals in Ajman, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah, in addition to supervising their setup to receive COVID-19 cases, which contributed to effectively managing the pandemic.

SEHA stressed that administrative and technical staff play a significant role in the health sector alongside medical personnel, as their roles and tasks complement each other to deliver high-quality care to members of the community by distinguished Emirati professionals.

Engineer Marwan Shaya, who holds a master’s degree in engineering management, has worked on vital projects for the company, including operating Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, building hospitals and health centers, and maintaining existing health facilities, which improved their operational efficiency.

Shaya has approximately 16 years of practical experience, gained before joining SEHA, from working with major companies in the UAE, notably ADNOC.

Shaya affirms that the relevant health authorities in the UAE demonstrated a sense of responsibility from the very start of the pandemic by conducting tests to discover cases to limit the spread of the virus. They also implemented precautionary measures to contain the virus, rushed to launch advanced field hospitals to accommodate infected cases, provide treatment, and deliver vaccines to the entire population.

He urged the youth of the UAE to seek knowledge and gain experiences, preparing themselves thoroughly and always living up to the leadership's expectations so they can contribute to the development of the UAE, praising SEHA for supporting him and providing opportunities to participate in numerous training courses in his field.
