An Iranian man condemned for murder died "from extreme joy" after hearing the news of his pardon from the relatives of his victim, according to the Iranian government newspaper "Hemishehri." The report stated that a man named Akbar, a resident of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, committed a murder and had been battling the nightmare of execution for the past 18 years.
It added that 55-year-old Akbar suffered a stroke from overwhelming joy when he learned that the victim's parents had forgiven him, and he lost his life an hour after being taken to the hospital. The newspaper cited sources familiar with the case, stating that Akbar lived in fear of the execution of his death sentence for 18 years after committing the murder at the age of 37. It was noted that after efforts by dispute resolution officials in Bandar Abbas, they managed to convince the victim’s family and obtain their approval for Akbar's pardon.
