A 25-year-old Russian man fatally stabbed his pregnant wife, 30, with a knife, resulting in the deaths of both, according to a report by the British newspaper The Sun on Saturday.
Russian authorities charged the firefighter with murdering his family after he stabbed his pregnant wife multiple times. His 5-year-old daughter from a previous relationship attempted to protect her mother and was also stabbed several times in their home in Vologda, northwestern Russia, just two weeks after the couple's wedding. Days into the marriage, it became clear that the man was drinking excessively, to the point that his wife became fed up with him. After committing the crime, the husband set fire to their home in an attempt to destroy evidence.
In an audio recording to investigators, he stated, "I returned home, and she didn't say hello. I got angry, went to the kitchen, and took the biggest knife." Local media sources reported that the husband killed his wife and children under the influence of alcohol, and it was noted that he confessed to killing both the mother and the child during police questioning.
A spokesperson for the Russian police confirmed, "Examinations showed that the victims died from multiple stab wounds to the upper body. The woman was pregnant at the time of the crime."
The husband faces a life sentence if convicted of these murders.
