In recent days, a video of a boy in Lebanon crying over his brother's body after a migrant boat sank near the city of Tripoli in the north has captured attention on social media. This painful scene has garnered hundreds of shares and comments from social media activists. It was later revealed that the clip is old and features a Syrian child whose brother was killed in 2014, according to the Agence France-Presse.
The video was misleading and old, showing the boy lying on a bed, crying, with a corpse wrapped in white fabric beside him. Many accompanying comments described it as "a final farewell and a heartbreaking scene of a Lebanese boy crying over his dead brother."
The video began circulating after a migrant boat, carrying dozens of people, sank on the night of April 23, during an attempt by the Lebanese army to intercept it off the coast of Tripoli. However, the "fact-checking service" clarified that the footage is old, recorded on January 28, 2014, in the Daraya area of the rural Damascus region, following a bombardment by the Syrian regime on the area.
