The Iranian ambassador in Doha, Hamid Reza Dehghani, confirmed his country's welcome for Qatar's positive role in establishing a mechanism for regional dialogue.
In an interview with the Qatari newspaper "Al-Sharq," Dehghani stated that "Tehran has a project and proposal to initiate regional dialogues in the area within the framework of the Hormuz Peace Initiative presented by the Islamic Republic of Iran." He emphasized that "collective security is important in the region, but it cannot be achieved based on a zero-sum equation, and cooperation can only occur through dialogue and mutual understanding."
Regarding the crisis between Iran and Washington, Dehghani said that "Tehran is waiting for U.S. President Joe Biden to return to the nuclear deal from which the Trump administration withdrew, along with taking corrective steps."
Yesterday, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani confirmed during a joint press conference held Wednesday with his Spanish counterpart Arancha González Laya in Doha that Iran is a neighboring country, and what happens in the region directly affects Qatar. He clarified that his country seeks to de-escalate tensions and resume the diplomatic process to return to the nuclear agreement that was previously signed between Iran and the major powers, revealing that communication with both the American and Iranian sides has not stopped.
Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also called for Gulf countries to engage in dialogue with Iran, affirming that it is time to start these discussions.
