Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated during a speech at the annual conference of conservative political forces in Orlando, Florida, that the Biden administration's policy towards China will weaken the American economy and give Beijing an advantage.
Pompeo noted that halting the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the United States "destroyed" ten thousand jobs. The diplomat questioned whether the authorities would fulfill their promise to employ workers who were laid off from solar panel manufacturing companies. He was quoted by "Politico" saying, "You can be assured that cheap solar panels coming from China will flow into America like never before. This will not benefit the United States at all." He also criticized Biden's decision to renew U.S. participation in the Paris Climate Agreement. According to him, Beijing is "very happy" with this step, as the American economy will incur losses from the new commitments. In January, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying described Pompeo as a "clown." This statement came after the American diplomat proclaimed the genocide of Uighurs in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. According to Beijing, with these words, Pompeo presented himself as a clown and a joke to the whole world.
