The Egyptian Medical Syndicate expressed its anger on Sunday after noticing a commercial advertisement from a lingerie company that aired on Egyptian television and social media platforms. The syndicate stated its "rejection and disapproval of this advertisement in both form and content, as it includes explicit and clear mockery of the Egyptian citizen, exacerbating the feelings of the Egyptian people and portraying the Egyptian citizen in an inappropriate manner, showing them in worn-out underwear."
In its statement, the syndicate added, "The advertisement included insults and derogatory treatment towards the medical team, depicting the Egyptian citizen as a patient seeking medical assistance, with a doctor and nurse mocking and ridiculing their torn clothes. This contradicts the conduct expected of the medical team and violates the ethics codes of various professions, particularly medical professions," as cited by the official "Akhbar El-Yom" portal.
The syndicate's statement continued: "This advertisement contains a vulgar style, ridicules the Egyptian citizen, insults the medical team, and violates Law 180 of 2018 regarding the regulation of journalism and media, as well as the media code of honor issued by Decision No. 17 of 2017."
According to the statement, "In accordance with the provisions of Law 93 of 2016, the Egyptian Medical Syndicate demands that the relevant authorities immediately halt the broadcast of this advertisement and investigate those responsible for producing and publishing it, in accordance with the provisions of Law 189 of 2020, which introduced Article 309 bis to the Penal Code No. 58 of 1937 concerning the punishment for bullying."
Furthermore, the Egyptian Medical Syndicate confirmed that it would take all necessary legal measures against advertisements that offend the Egyptian people and the medical profession in Egypt.
