Egypt Receives New Shipment of AstraZeneca Vaccine via COVAX Initiative

The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced late on Friday that Egypt received a new shipment of approximately 1.7 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine through the global COVAX initiative. This new shipment, the third of its kind, brings the total number of AstraZeneca doses received by Egypt through COVAX to around 4.3 million doses. Egypt has also received shipments of Sputnik, Sinopharm, Sinovac, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Recently, it began local production of Sinovac vaccines. The government stated in June that it aims to vaccinate 40% of the population, which totals 100 million people, by the end of this year.
