Maradona's Son: Messi is the Best Human to Play Football, but My Father Was Not Human

Diego Maradona's late Argentine legend's son believes that his father is the greatest player to ever touch a football and should not be compared to any player, not even Lionel Messi. Diego Maradona Jr. stated in an interview with Radio "Del Plata": "I have a lot of respect and admiration for Messi; he is the best in this period of history, but not the best of all time." He continued: "I believe that no one will reach the level my father achieved."

However, this does not mean that Maradona's son is not a fan of Messi. He said: "I was happy when he won the Copa America; he silenced many critics. It was difficult to have Messi on your team for several years and not enjoy him." He concluded: "Messi is the best human to play football, but my father was not human."

Diego Maradona Jr. was born in Naples in 1986, following an affair between his father Diego and Cristiana Sinagra. Maradona did not acknowledge him at birth, so he took his mother's surname. Maradona acknowledged him as his son in 2007, and his son spoke about their relationship, saying: "He asked me to forgive him many times; what happened was in the past. I told him that we should enjoy the present together, and that I want to stay with him."
