No Preconditions for "International Six" Meeting with Iran, Says U.S. State Department Spokesperson

No Preconditions for

U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price confirmed that the United States has not set any preconditions for the "International Six" meeting with Iran.

Price explained during an interview on MSNBC today, in response to a question about why the U.S. had set preconditions for returning to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) from which it had previously withdrawn, saying: "You are talking about preconditions, but we announced yesterday that we want the (5+1) format, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany - to sit with the Iranians at the negotiation table." He emphasized that there are no preconditions.

In the same context, Price stated in a press briefing, "Regardless of the form of UN sanctions on Iran, we will continue to use our authorities to persuade other countries to refrain from selling weapons to Iran."

Earlier today, White House spokesperson Jen Psaki announced that the United States does not plan to lift sanctions imposed on Iran before engaging in talks with Europe regarding the Iranian nuclear program. These developments come despite the Biden administration sending a message to the UN Security Council yesterday, informing them of its withdrawal from Donald Trump's announcement to resume all UN sanctions on Iran.

The U.S. had unilaterally decided to extend the arms embargo on Iran and presented it to the UN Security Council, which subsequently rejected it, raising the ire of the Trump administration that had withdrawn from the nuclear deal in 2018.
