Finland has been ranked as the happiest country in the world for the fifth consecutive year. This evaluation was presented in the 2022 World Happiness Report, commissioned by the United Nations and published on Friday. Finland topped this ranking, as in previous years, with several hundred points ahead of other countries. The top five included Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, and the Netherlands alongside Finland, while Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Israel, and New Zealand also made it into the top ten.
In this ranking, Russia moved down to the 80th position, having been 60th the previous year, and the study covered 146 countries. The World Happiness Report has been published since 2012. Researchers take into account factors such as GDP per capita, level of social support, life expectancy, respect for civil liberties, job security, level of corruption, as well as public opinion survey results.
Among the happiness factors for Finnish residents, proximity to nature, a safe living environment, and the availability of essential and necessary services are often mentioned.
