The head of the doctors' syndicate, Professor Youssef Bakhash, warned in a statement about the rapid spread of Hepatitis A, a highly contagious disease that can, in exceptional cases, lead to liver failure. He attributed the reasons for its swift spread to a "lack of potable water, poor sanitation, and general hygiene. The worst part is that its incubation period ranges from 15 to 50 days." Bakhash praised the Ministry of Health for its work and cooperation with relevant authorities to investigate the cause of contamination, noting that "water network tests indicate no pollution." He highlighted the rapid increase in cases, which reached 118 within less than a week.
He advised on "the necessity of prevention and personal hygiene at home, such as washing hands thoroughly after using the toilet and before preparing or consuming food, using reliable water for drinking and cleaning fruits and vegetables, and working to provide the necessary vaccine, followed by a proactive vaccination campaign for at-risk communities, starting with the elderly and those with health problems and chronic diseases." He emphasized that "early detection of the disease is a priority as it leads to isolating infected individuals, containing the spread of infection, and eliminating the epidemic."
