This is Lebanon's fourth qualification for the World Championship finals after 2002, 2006, and 2010. It should be noted that they participated in the last finals with a special invitation ("wild card"), having previously qualified twice through the Asian Championship in 2001 and 2005, where they finished as runners-up to China in Shanghai and Doha, respectively, before the qualification system for the World Championship was changed.
