Iraqi forces today destroyed 8 hideouts of the ISIS terrorist organization in a qualitative operation in Diyala province, east of the Iraqi capital.
The Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate announced in a statement, as reported by Al-Alam channel, that "accurate intelligence allowed the army's aircraft to destroy eight ISIS hideouts in the al-Khailawiya and al-Tabbaj areas belonging to Qara Tappah in Diyala province." The statement added that "the military intelligence detachments of the fifth division and the 20th Infantry Brigade were able to raid two hideouts and seize a motorcycle, two small generators, and canned food. Meanwhile, the engineering detachments of the division destroyed the two hideouts on-site."
Baghdad had witnessed heightened security measures in the international zone surrounding Baghdad International Airport since the attack that targeted the al-Tayaran Square in the al-Bab al-Sharqi area of central Baghdad last Thursday, which resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties and injuries. This led to regional and international condemnations of the bloody bombings, calling for the security forces to fulfill their duties in protecting lives and property and to hold accountable those responsible.
Several days ago, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi issued orders for major changes in the security apparatus following the terrorist bombings, which included the dismissal of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Intelligence Affairs and the Director General of Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism (Falcon Cell) of the Ministry of Interior, linking it to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Additionally, the Baghdad Operations Commander was transferred to the Ministry of Defense, and the Federal Police Chief and the Director of Intelligence and Security of Baghdad Operations were dismissed from their positions.
