The Lebanese Education Minister in the caretaker government, Tarek Majzoub, has issued a directive aimed at regulating remote education until February 15.
According to Al-Jadeed channel, the directive states the following: Article One stipulates that schools and official and private secondary institutions, in addition to official schools that operate in the afternoon for teaching non-Lebanese students, will continue remote learning paths until February 15, 2021, following the implementation procedures outlined in decision 536/M/2020 dated November 11, 2020. It is up to the school principal to adopt educational paths that ensure smooth teaching while considering the need not to overwhelm students with lessons and homework.
Article Two of the directive states: In official schools and secondary institutions, in addition to official schools that operate in the afternoon for teaching non-Lebanese students, the following shall be adopted:
- The weekly teaching program specified in the schedule attached to decree 10227/97, ensuring that synchronous teaching does not exceed 40 minutes of the instructional period.
- The weekly teaching program adopted for the afternoon schedule for teaching non-Lebanese students.
- Compensation for teaching hours lost during previous closure periods by adding a sixth day to the five approved days of remote education, which can occur within the weekly holiday (Friday or Saturday) or as deemed appropriate by the school principal, considering the capabilities of teachers and students.
Lebanon began implementing general lockdown measures last Thursday until the 25th of this month amid a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
