Will "Free Patriotic Movement" Ministers Resign from the Government?

Will

A political source informed "Al-Jumhuriya" that "the possibility of resignation by ministers close to the President and the Free Patriotic Movement is a valid possibility if the delay in forming the new government continues." It was pointed out that "even if the government is currently functioning in a caretaker capacity, the resignation of Christian ministers is possible in principle," clarifying that "any such forced option aims, if adopted, to pressure those concerned to expedite the formation of the government, as it is unacceptable to continue in caretaker mode until the end of President Michel Aoun's term, thus hindering its final months."

The source affirmed that Aoun and the Free Patriotic Movement want the establishment of a proper government that meets all specifications and have no interest in obstructing its formation, as it is important for them to end the term with achievements in vital issues. However, the website "Lebanon 24," close to Mikati, attributed to "relevant circles" their comments on this scenario, stating: "This is certainly a new chapter of Don Quixote-like adventures in fighting windmills that have characterized the past years, and this 'adventure' whose chapters are being drawn will cost the Lebanese people primarily, and will lead to undermining what remains of the state’s components, and let those who crafted this scenario bear the consequences of what may happen."

The circles expressed astonishment that "some are still insisting on exhausting the term until the last gasp to serve personal goals and implement their own agenda, even at the expense of the country and the people." They noted that "whoever leaked the news revealed, intentionally or unintentionally, that Bassil is a key partner in the presidential decision at all levels, confirming what most Lebanese people and local and foreign stakeholders say in this regard."

These circles added that "the designated president has fulfilled his duties in presenting a government formation that outlines the actual framework of his governmental vision, and is waiting to complete his remarks with the President regarding it. He is also continuing with the ministers to follow up on all files and make appropriate decisions regarding them, alongside preparations for the expected parliamentary session after the holidays to approve reform projects." They concluded, "If there are those who still want to lead the country into a new adventure after all that has happened, they should bear the consequences of their actions, nationally, constitutionally, and politically."
