President Amin Gemayel received the Egyptian Ambassador, Dr. Yasser Alawi, in his office at Beit Al-Mustaqbal.
The National News Agency reported that both sides discussed the current troubled situation at various health, economic, and political levels in Lebanon and the region. Gemayel called for "moving away from rigid power-sharing arrangements and forming a government based on high standards that address the dangers of the current phase." He praised "the relief initiative launched by Egypt in support of Lebanon to confront the repercussions of the port explosion."
Additionally, Gemayel condemned "the repeated attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the latest of which was the targeting of Riyadh with missile systems," considering it "recklessness that could lead the region into the unknown."
Media sources have speculated about a French-American movement concerning Lebanon that will commence in the coming weeks, as there is a growing belief in Paris regarding a serious opportunity, not only to revive the French initiative which faded at the end of Donald Trump's presidency but also to achieve practical solutions for the Lebanese impasse. Lebanon is currently facing a crisis in forming a government, alongside economic crises due to the general lockdown in the country as a result of the record spread of the coronavirus and the Lebanese authorities' inability to contain the second wave of the pandemic.
