UN Investigation: ISIS Used Chemical Weapons Against Civilians

The channels "Al Arabiya" and "Al Hadath" obtained the latest report from the UN investigation mission "UNITAD" concerning ISIS crimes in Iraq and Syria. The report revealed that ISIS tested biological weapons on prisoners in Iraq. It also indicated the possibility of holding ISIS accountable for the crimes committed there. The UN report confirmed that the organization’s crimes against the Yazidis amount to war crimes and genocide. It emphasized that ISIS used chemical weapons against civilians between 2014 and 2016. The report noted the identification of 875 ISIS victims in 11 mass graves, as well as the identification of 4 execution sites following the attack on "Badosh" prison in Nineveh.

Last Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi directed security forces to enhance intelligence and security efforts, initiate proactive operations to confront ISIS movements, cut off its resources, and destroy its strongholds. This was discussed during a meeting that included senior leaders from federal security agencies, the Peshmerga, and the ministers of interior, defense, and finance, where they examined ways to establish security and stability in light of recent events in Iraq.

Iraqi security officials announced that 18 individuals, mostly members of the security forces, were killed in a series of attacks launched by extremists on Friday night in various parts of the country. It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Friday the discovery of caches of munitions, including missiles, launchers, and homemade explosive devices, during a security operation carried out by the operations command in Al Anbar and the forward command of joint operations in Kirkuk. In recent months, the pace of ISIS movements has escalated in the provinces of Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, Al Anbar, and Diyala, where those areas are witnessing sporadic attacks by the organization’s elements.
