A man raped a pregnant woman who was pursued alongside two others in Warrap State, South Sudan. The governor of the Western Guoriyal County in Warrap stated that the incident occurred in the northern Kwajok area – Malik village, while the perpetrator fled into the forest.
According to government authorities, the incident took place last Thursday when three women went to the Wonring market in the morning hours. Governor Victor Wick Khor explained to Tamazuj Radio: "As the three women were returning home after buying their market supplies, a man chased them. Two women ran away quickly, but the pregnant woman could not run fast enough, and here the man raped her."
He added, "That same night, four relatives of the victim went to the perpetrator's home, asking his wife and children to leave the house, and they set the house on fire while the perpetrator was inside. However, he escaped the fire and fled into the forest."
The governor continued: "Upon hearing the news, the police arrested the perpetrator and four relatives of the victim who tried to take the law into their own hands by burning the perpetrator in the room. Investigations are ongoing."
Bona Moul Wal Doot, Deputy Chair of the Civil Society Organizations Alliance in Warrap State, condemned the crime of rape and urged government authorities to pursue the perpetrator.
Warrap is a state in South Sudan with its capital in the town of Warrap or Todok, covering an area of 31,027 square kilometers, and is part of the Bahr el Ghazal region. The city of Warrap is located about 57 miles east of Wau. The local population engages in herding and agriculture, with the Dinka community known for cattle rearing, which serves as a social symbol, and an individual's or family's social status within the tribe is measured by the number of cattle they possess. It is connected to the city of Wau by a road that branches near Warrap to connect to Tonj and Guoriyal.
