Joint Military Committee 5+5 in Libya Approves Request from Libyan House of Representatives

The Joint Military Committee "5+5" announced its approval of the Libyan House of Representatives' request to hold a confidence vote session for the Government of National Unity in the city of Sirte.

According to a statement from the committee reported by Sputnik today, after consultation and communication among members of the Joint Military Committee 5+5, it was confirmed that the venue for the meeting in Sirte is safe and ready for the confidence vote session for the Government of National Unity from the beginning to the end of the meeting.

The statement clarified that the committee agreed to hold the session in Sirte due to the difficult circumstances the country is facing, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the country's unity and the significance of granting confidence to the Government of National Unity.

It is noteworthy that the Speaker of the House of Representatives called for a confidence vote session for the Government of National Unity in Sirte on February 26, 2021, indicating that the invitation included a request for the committee to respond regarding the possibility of securing the session.

Last Thursday, the designated Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, announced that he sent a proposed structure for his government to the Speaker of the House of Representatives in preparation for gaining its confidence, after which the new government will embark on a transitional phase to prepare for parliamentary and presidential elections by the end of the year, according to the outcomes of the dialogue conference held in Geneva in recent weeks.
