Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a muscle injury during Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Friday, joining the list of injured players in the "Reds" squad. The injury comes ahead of Liverpool's highly anticipated match against Manchester City on the 30th of this month as part of the FA Community Shield.
Liverpool's manager, German Jürgen Klopp, stated in comments relayed by Liverpool's official website: "It’s definitely frustrating, Oxlade has been training well all the time since the beginning of the preparation period."
He added, "Oxlade has previously suffered from these types of injuries when the intensity increases, but this time he has a muscle injury, and we have faced worse situations in the past."
Klopp continued: "I don’t know how long the recovery will take, but he will come back, and everything will be fine; he is a high-quality player and can help us."
Regarding the chances of injured duo Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota participating in the Charity Shield match against Manchester City, Klopp said: "I think Alisson has a chance, but Diogo does not have that chance."
He went on: "Alisson has a muscle injury in his abdomen; it’s not dangerous, but we are preparing for a full season, so he can train but not like before, so he cannot play right now. He won't train normally, but he won’t waste time."
Klopp concluded: "These things happen; players travel a lot and train, these are simple matters and not serious, but we must be cautious as the season is long."
