A snowstorm hit the Taban Desert in Saudi Arabia this week, and residents of the area woke up to an unusual sight as the sandy desert was blanketed in white. Videos circulated on social media showing camels running in the snow-covered desert, as residents raced to document the scenes.
On January 17, a YouTuber captured videos of the snowstorm hitting the area, along with stunning drone footage of the desert covered in snow the following day. On its official Twitter page, the Taban Emirate shared a series of photos accompanied by the caption, "In an artistic scene capturing the effects of rain on the ground, which recently fell over the Taban area in the space of Al-Hawwa village east of Taban city."
In the following days, the city, located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia, witnessed a large influx of dozens of Saudis who came from various parts of the country to enjoy the snow spectacle and welcome the rare white visitor rarely seen in the kingdom.
