Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed on Friday with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad the proposed ways to end the Syrian crisis, which has been ongoing for 10 years, and to find satisfactory solutions for all parties involved. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The two ministers also reviewed Egyptian-Syrian relations and regional issues of mutual interest. Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez announced via Twitter that the ministers met at the Egyptian mission in New York "to discuss ways to end the crisis in Syria," without providing further details. Prior to this meeting, which is the first of its kind since the outbreak of the crisis in Syria, Mikdad hosted several Arab and foreign officials on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. Mikdad also met with his Somali counterpart Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, and yesterday with Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
