Readers of the American edition of "Newsweek" reacted to the data regarding the provision of Western weapons to Ukraine, published by the "Ukraine Support Tracker" monitoring system. According to this system, the United States pledged $25.2 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, while new assurances of military aid to Kyiv from Europe in July became "completely empty," as by August no major country in the European Union had taken on "any new large commitments."
The publication prompted active responses from readers in the form of comments. A user named "HH Victor" wrote, "Ukraine has been and still is just a waste of money, billions and billions. It is actually a black hole in the event horizon from which nothing returns, and everything simply disappears behind it—money, weapons, or people." Another reader, "Willez," commented, "Biden needs to pump money into Ukraine so the Ukrainians don’t give us all the details regarding his son's crimes in that country."
"Malcolm Tent" expressed belief that "Biden (very powerful) truly united the whole West to provide maximum aid to Ukraine against Russia? But what is happening? The West is not giving much! Another lie just to (support) Biden again." Reader "Roger Vincent" wrote a comment saying, "You have to be extremely naive to assume that all this money is going to Ukraine, as the U.S. government claims. This money fuels our military-industrial complex to produce new weapons, etc., for the U.S. army."
It is noteworthy that Russia had previously sent a note to all countries, including the United States, regarding arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated that any shipment containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russian forces, while the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that NATO countries are "playing with fire" by supplying weapons to Ukraine.
