Murder of Egyptian Tortured by Kidnappers in Libya

The Libyan Public Prosecutor's Office announced the death of an Egyptian expatriate due to torture by his kidnappers in the city of Misrata, in the western part of the country. The office stated in a report yesterday, "Based on a report from the Egyptian expatriate Jibril Sabri Ali submitted to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Misrata, detailing the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping of his brother to force him to pay a ransom, the Public Prosecutor directed the elements of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Security Task Force of the Misrata Security Directorate to begin searching for the perpetrators and to rescue the victim from his kidnappers."

The report further mentioned that "the law enforcement procedures resulted in the arrest of the culprits and the rescue of four expatriates, and the investigation led to the location where the victim was buried after succumbing to torture." Additionally, it was noted that the Public Prosecutor's Office in Misrata followed up on the investigation, which included the perpetrators' confessions, the site inspection results, the examination of the victim's body, and its presentation to the forensic doctor to determine the cause and manner of death. The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of the suspects pending the case.
